Charity fair in aid of homeless animals

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011

PETFINDER.MY, a pet adoption portal will be organising a charity fair on April 23 and 24.

The even held in conjunction with its third anniversary, will be attended by SPCA Selangor, Paws, Hope, Save A Stray, Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better, Paws Mission and AnimalCare.

They will be making available an assortment of merchandise and sharing knowledge on responsibly managing pets.

Furry love: Animal lovers are getting together for a good cause organised by PetFinder.my

“During past events, we often observed disparity in public donations among NGOs, and donors usually contributed to one selected party only.

“To provide a more balanced assistance for homeless animals, donor funds will be centralised and redistributed accordingly,” said portal founder Andy Koh.

Five merchants will be offering exclusive art and crafts for sale, donating the profits to charity.

The merchandise include mugs, cushions, T-shirts and jigsaw puzzles imprinted with customer photos by HeartBeat.my; engraved pet tags and accessories by Furrenz.com; magic keychains and art pieces by Da Vinci Creative Kids and The One Academy; animal mousepads and pens by Henry Cats & Friends; and personalised Magazine Cover memorabilia by Petster Magazine.

Co-organised by Save A Stray and Furrenz.com, this event further serves to launch Petster Magazine’s 100 Day Pet Adoption Drive and Save A Stray’s subsidised spaying campaign in co-operation with the Sunway municipality.

The event will be complemented with stage activities, performances and contests, offering alluring prizes and giveaways sponsored by i-Hotel, Henry Cats & Friends, U R My Pet House, Casa and PetsMore.

Petfinder & HeartBeat.my

PetFinder.my and HeartBeat.my has also partnered to kickstart a month-long online donation drive to raise further funds for the participating NGOs.

From now, HeartBeat.my will donate 50% of their sales, so those unable to attend the event can contribute as well.

The Charity Fair will take place at Sunway Pyramid’s Orange Wing, LG2 from 12pm – 8pm on both days.

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

Rest in Peace! Fish fish!

Today morning, when I go to office, I found that my fish fish are dead!

so sad so bad.. why you leave us so earlier? why you died so suddenly?
(actually it is not “suddenly”, it is because somebody saw a fish “jump out” from the aquarium, then he “ke poh” closed the aquarium cover, and then no oxygen in the aquarium caused the tragedy)

fish fish, next time hor, pls don’t be fish anymore, try to be a good human! wish you REST in PIECE PEACE!

Like Elvis, Michael Jackson was a King who died young

    Friday, June 26th, 2009

    By HILLEL ITALIE
    The Associated Press
    Friday, June 26, 2009; 12:05 AM

NEW YORK — Michael Jackson didn’t want to be just a superstar. Like the Beatles, he wanted to be the biggest, the king. He wanted to topple the reigning man with the crown, Elvis.

In life and in death, there was Elvis.

“It’s just so weird. He even married Elvis’ daughter,” said author-music critic Greil Marcus, who wrote at length about Presley in his acclaimed cultural history, “Mystery Train.”

Elvis Presley overdosed – in his bathroom – on prescription drugs in 1977 at 42, his bloated, glazed middle age a cautionary tale to rock stars and other celebrities. Jackson died Thursday at 50, rushed from his Los Angeles home and pronounced dead at the UCLA Medical Center.

The death shocked more than surprised. While endless fame seemed to inflate Elvis like helium, Jackson’s fame seemed to scrub the flesh and wear into his bones until you could almost see him shiver.

Like Elvis, Jackson was once beautiful, outrageous, a revolutionary without politics who shook down the walls between black and white. He had the hits, the style, the ego, the talent. He was the King of Pop and he needed only to fill in the life: He married Elvis’ daughter. He bought the rights to some of Elvis’ songs. Elvis owned Graceland, its name a symbol for a deliverance the singer prayed for until the end of his life. Jackson had Neverland, a fantasy for a child-man for whom money meant the chance to live in a world of his own.

He did, and did not, want to be like Elvis.

In “Moon Walk,” a memoir published in 1988, Jackson insisted Elvis was not important to him growing up and that he was unhappy to learn a song he recorded with his brothers, “Heartbreak Hotel,” shared the name of Presley’s first national hit.

“I swear that was a phrase that came out of my head and I wasn’t thinking of any other song when I wrote it,” he wrote. “The record company printed it on the cover as `This Place Hotel,’ because of the Elvis Presley connection. As important as he was to music, black as well as white, he just wasn’t an influence on me. I guess he was too early for me. Maybe it was timing more than anything else.

“By the time our song had come out, people thought that if I kept living in seclusion the way I was, I might die the way he did. The parallels aren’t there as far as I’m concerned and I was never much for scare tactics. Still, the way Elvis destroyed himself interests me, because I don’t ever want to walk those grounds myself.”
